Important Scholarship Information

The following scholarships are available to Local 11 members and their families who meet the specific scholarship requirements.

 

Each individual scholarship has its’ own requirements and rules for application. It is very important that you are aware of the APPLICATION RULES and DEADLINES for each scholarship. Application deadlines can be as early as February 1st to as late as April 1st in the year the scholarship is offered.

 

If you have missed an application deadline we encourage you to read the following scholarship application rules and requirements, so that you are better prepared to make an application for next years scholarship offerings when they become available.

 

Please be aware that the rules and applications for each scholarship are different, and not all scholarships are offered every year.

ROWAN U/GOVERNING BOARD OF PRESIDENTS (GBOP) SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

 

As announced in the 1st Quarter 2016 Journeyman Roofer & Waterproofer magazine, North America’s Building Trades Unions have joined with Rowan University to launch a Bachelor of Arts degree program in Construction Management. The program is a career-oriented professional degree completion program and is designed for individuals who may possess existing college credits and/or on-the-job experience in the building and construction trades. The program is specifically designed for Building Trades members, is accessible nationwide and is fully online.

 

It has now been announced that beginning with the spring and summer semesters 2017, Rowan University will offer fourteen GBOP Scholarships per year for the next three years to Building Trades members who have applied and been admitted to the Rowan University Bachelor’s Degree Program in Construction Management. One scholarship will be available to a member from each trade.

 

GBOP Scholarships will pay for half of the first-year tuition for full-time students who are Building Trades members. Full-time enrollment is defined as two classes per semester. The value of these scholarships will be up to $3,600 per student and will only be available to first-year students.

 

The scholarship criteria for a member of the United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers & Allied Workers is as follows:

 

  • Must be a member in good standing
  • Must have applied to the Rowan University Construction Management Program
  • Must provide a letter of reference from their Local Union or the International Union
  • Must maintain a 3.0 GPA to maintain the GBOP Scholarship

2018 CISCO Scholarship Applications Are Now Available

 

CISCO Launches 2018 Scholarship Program – Application Deadline – February 23, 2018

 

Three Program Categories Enable Wider Range of Students to Apply

 

The Construction Industry Service Corporation (CISCO) is now accepting applications for its 2018 Scholarship Program. The three different program categories enable a wider range of the children of both building trade union members and union contractor employees to apply. The program was established in 1994 in order to provide educational support for CISCO members and their families. Changes have been made to enable a wider range of the children of both building trade union and union contractor employees to apply.

 

“This program represents CISCO’s commitment to education on all levels,” said Executive Director Dan Allen. “Whether it’s a four-year school, a community college or continuing education, this is a more all-inclusive opportunity for our members and those with college-age children.”

 

All applications and accompanying documents MUST be postmarked by February 17, 2017 to be eligible for consideration.  For judging criteria, application information and eligibility requirements, please click on any of the three application forms that follow:

2016 WILLIAM A. LEE MEMORIAL

SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

 

Each year, the Chicago Federation of Labor awards 10 scholarships to high school seniors, valued at $2,000 each. The funds may be used at any accredited college or university in the United States.

 

Completed applications must be received by the CFL by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018. The CFL is located at 130 E. Randolph Street, Suite 2600, Chicago, IL 60601. Applications may be dropped off at the office Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Mailed applications must be postmarked by Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018.

 

Eligibility

 

  • The applicant must be a senior in high school and graduating in the spring of 2018.
  • Either the applicant or the applicant’s parent must be a member in good standing of a CFL-affiliated union. To confirm a union’s affiliation status, please call 312.222.1000.
  • The applicant must choose to enter either the Random Drawing or Academic Competition for the William A. Lee Memorial Scholarship. Students are not eligible to enter both categories. APPLICANTS ATTEMPTING TO ENTER BOTH CATEGORIES WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.
  • Only completed applications, with the personal essay, will be accepted.

2018 CRCA Scholarship

Two CRCA Scholarships are available to seniors graduating in 2018 with an ACT of 28 or greater or comparable SAT.  These will be awarded to students attending 4-year accredited colleges/universities.  For more information, visit www.crca.org/scholarship after Dec. 15th, 2017.

 

 

Chicagoland Roofing Council

 

2018 Scholarship Available to:

 

  • Dependants of Local #11 Contractors
  • Dependants of Local #11 Contractors' Staff
  • Dependants of Local #11 Field Personnel
  • Members of Local #11

 

The Chicagoland Roofing Council will provide a maximum of a $2,000 scholarship to a 2018 high school graduate who plans to enroll in:

 

  • An accredited 4-year college or university
  • A community college
  • a vocational training center

2018 Union Plus Scholarship

Union Plus Scholarship Deadline is January 31, 2018! Apply Now!

Since 1992, the Union Plus Scholarship Program has awarded more than $3.6 million to students of working families who want to begin or continue their post-secondary education. Over 2,400 families have benefited from our commitment to higher education. The Union Plus Scholarship Program is offered through the Union Plus Education Foundation, which is sponsored by Union Privilege.

 

Union Plus scholarships support our overall mission to help support union families' education goals. In the past 25 years, union members and their children have received over $4 million in Union Plus scholarships.

 

Scholarship award amounts range from $500 to $4,000. These one-time, cash awards are for study beginning in the Fall each year. Students may re-apply each year.

 

Application deadline: January 31, 2018, 12pm ET.

 

Eligibility criteria:

  • Current and retired members of unions participating in any Union Plus program, their spouses and their dependent children (as defined by IRS regulations) are eligible. Grandchildren are not eligible unless a legal dependent (as defined by IRS regulations).  At least one year of continuous union membership by the applicant, applicant's spouse or parent (if applicant is a dependent). The one year membership minimum must be satisfied by May 31, 2018.
  • Members of participating unions from the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands and Canada.
  • The applicant must be accepted into a U.S. accredited college, university, community college, technical or trade school at the time the award is issued.  Awards must be used for the 2018 - 2019 school year.
  • Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply.

The Contractors Association of Will and Grundy Counties

The Contractors Association of Will and Grundy Counties' Scholarship chair Becky Fallin, President of RHL Insulation and Firestopping, Inc. is pleased to announce the Annual Contractors Association of Will and Grundy Counties Scholarship Program. Since the program's inception in 1996, the association has awarded nearly $100,000 to deserving scholars who will be pursuing degrees the construction field.

 

Applicants must be the son/daughter of an owner OR Applicant must be a son/daughter of a full-time employee of a CAWGC member company OR a son/daughter of a Will/Grundy union building tradesman, who will be attending college full-time in the Fall of 2018 or a present full-time college student who is pursuing an undergraduate degree.

 

A construction related major and a "C or better" average is also required. The application deadline is April 13, 2018. An interview will be required for all first-time finalists. Recipients will be announced early May.
