Important Scholarship Information

The following scholarships are available to Local 11 members and their families who meet the specific scholarship requirements.

 

Each individual scholarship has its’ own requirements and rules for application. It is very important that you are aware of the APPLICATION RULES and DEADLINES for each scholarship. Application deadlines can be as early as February 1st to as late as April 1st in the year the scholarship is offered.

 

If you have missed an application deadline we encourage you to read the following scholarship application rules and requirements, so that you are better prepared to make an application for next years scholarship offerings when they become available.

 

Please be aware that the rules and applications for each scholarship are different, and not all scholarships are offered every year.

Local 11 will be partnering with the Chicago Roofing Council Scholarship Program and we will be providing three additional scholarships for Local 11 members children.

CISCO 2024 SCHOLARSHIP AWARD PROGRAM

 

CISCO is accepting applications for its long-standing Annual Scholarship Awards Program. Applications form are available by clicking on one of the three types of scholarship awards below.

 

CISCO’s three (3) scholarship program categories are:

 

– Three (3) four-year scholarships ($2,000/year) for High School seniors to support college-bound children of construction building trade Union members and employees of Union contractors, or to children of non-bargaining unit employees of a Union contractor affiliated with CISCO.

– Two (2) two-year awards ($1,000/year) for High School seniors planning on attending a community college or pursuing an Associates Degree. Must be a child of a construction building trade Union member and employee of Union contractors, or a child of a non-bargaining unit employee of a Union contractor affiliated with CISCO.

– Two (2) two-year continuing education awards ($1,000/year) to support CISCO members who are enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at a community college or a 4-year accredited college or university who are working in the Union building construction trades or are employees of a CISCO contractor.

Chicagoland Roofing Council

 

2024 SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABLE TO:

 

•  Dependents of Local #11 Contractors

•  Dependents Local #11 Contractors' Office Staff

•  Dependents of Local 11 Field Personnel

•  Members of Local #11

 

The Chicagoland Roofing Council will provide a maximum of a $2000 scholarship to a 2023 high school graduate who plans to enroll in:

 

•  An accredited 4-year college or university

•  A community college

•  A vocational training center

Deadline: March 10th, 2024

 

Two additional CRCA Scholarships are available to seniors graduating in 2022 with an ACT of 30 or greater or SAT composite of 1390 or greater. These will be awarded to students attending 4-year accredited colleges/universities.

Chicago Federation of Labor

William A. Lee Memorial Scholarship

ACADEMIC / RANDOM (two different scholarships)

 

The Chicago Federation of Labor will award 10 William A. Lee Memorial Scholarships, valued at $2,000 each, to five winners of the Academic Competition and five winners of the Random Drawing. The funds may be used at any accredited college or university in the United States.

 

 

DEADLINE

Completed applications must be sent electronically to the Chicago Federation of Labor by Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024. Applications and all supporting materials should be emailed all together to scholarship@chicagolabor.org.

 

ACADEMIC COMPETITION APPLICATION

 

Scoring System

The winners will be determined based on both their academic achievements and their personal essay. The academic achievements will count as 75 percent of the overall score, with the essay making up the remaining 25 percent. For more information on the academic and essay requirements, see page 2 of the application. The top five students who score highest based on their overall academic achievements and their essay will win the scholarships.

 

 

ELIGIBILITY

 

•The applicant must be a senior in high school and graduating in the spring of 2024.

•Either the applicant or the applicant’s parent must be a member in good standing of a CFL-affiliated union. To confirm a union’s affiliation status, please call 312.222.1000.

•The applicant must choose to enter either the Academic Competition or Random Drawing for the William A. Lee Memorial Scholarship. Students are not eligible to enter both categories. APPLICANTS ATTEMPTING TO ENTER BOTH CATEGORIES WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM BOTH CATEGORIES.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

RESULTS AND DECISIONS OF THE SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE AND ACADEMIC COMPETITION SHALL BE FINAL.

The scholarships are entirely unrestricted as to race, religion, political affiliation, or choice of accredited college or university. The awards will be paid by checks to the winners. There is no restriction as to income of the family nor the acceptance of other scholarship awards by the winners. Any problems must be resolved by the students. Winners will be contacted by the CFL. The names of the winners and their union affiliation will be posted to the CFL website, and excerpts from their essays may be used for promotional purposes as the CFL deems appropriate.

The William A. Lee Memorial Scholarships will be awarded to the winners as soon as possible after selection. Winners must be present at the William A. Lee Memorial Scholarship presentation to receive their checks. The presentation will be held in Spring 2024. Once all winners of the Random Drawing and Academic Competition are determined, a date will be chosen by the Scholarship Committee and sent to the scholarship winners.

 

RANDOM DRAWING APPLICATION

Contractors Association of Will & Grundy Counties

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS FOR WILL & GRUNDY COUNTY RESIDENTS ONLY

 

Contractors Association of Will and Grundy Counties 2023-2024 Undergraduate Scholarship Program Eligibility Criteria

 

• Son/daughter of: an owner of a CAWGC member company OR full-time employee of a CAWGC member company OR Will/Grundy union building tradesman.

• A high school senior (Spring 2024 Graduate) planning to attend college Full-time OR presently a Full-time college student pursuing an undergraduate degree.

• Minimum 2.0 GPA.

• Majoring in a CONSTRUCTION related curriculum, such as construction management, architecture, engineering, interior design, etc.

 

The following must be submitted by all applicants:

1. Completed application form

2. High School Transcript, including ACT/SAT scores (if you applied last year there is no need to resubmit High School Transcripts).

3. Current College Transcript, if applicable.

4. Resume listing all school activities such as and achievements or any offices held. a. List any clubs, teams, honors, volunteer experiences and hobbies in which you have participated, including Scouts (with rank achieved) and provide dates of participation. Also list employment history.

5. Essay explaining: a. How your chosen field will apply to the construction industry b. Your goals c. Where you plan to attend college d. Why you applied for this scholarship

6. Written verification of parents employment with a CAWGC member firm or member building trade union. Verification must be submitted by a company official or building trades union official on company letterhead.

7. Include at least two (2) reference letters.

8. Finalists will be interviewed by the Scholarship Committee.

 

Applications and requested information must be received at the CAWGC office by Friday March 15, 2024 at 4:00pm. Scholarships will be awarded in April and awards will be sent directly to the college or university’s bursar – to be used for tuition and/or books only. Incomplete applications or those submitted after the deadline will be subject to rejection.

Union Plus

Deadline Date (EST Time Zone):

1/31/2024 12:00 PM

 

Award amounts:  $500 to $4,000.  These one-time cash awards are for study beginning in the Fall of 2024. Students may re-apply each year.

 

Award date:  May 31, 2024. During the first week of June 2024 award recipients will be notified by postal mail, and all applicants will be sent email notification.

 

Eligibility criteria:

  • Current and retired members of unions participating in any Union Plus program, their spouses and their dependent children (as defined by IRS regulations) are eligible. Grandchildren are not eligible unless a legal dependent (as defined by IRS regulations).  At least one year of continuous union membership by the applicant, applicant's spouse or parent (if applicant is a dependent). The one year membership minimum must be satisfied by May 31, 2024.
  • Members of participating unions from the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands and Canada are eligible.
  • The applicant must be accepted into a U.S. accredited college, university, community college, technical or trade school at the time the award is issued.  Awards must be used for the 2024 - 2025 school year.
  • Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply.
